WHAT IS THE STORY OF LATITUDE 37.8?
From San Francisco to Melbourne the love of true West Coast IPA's runs deep. So deep in fact that we share the same latitude, just in different hemispheres.
Latitude 37.8 West Coast IPA is a celebration of old brewing mates Scotty from Wolf of the Willows, and Andy from Original Pattern Brewing in the Oakland district of San Francisco California, sharing their mutual love of dank, tropical West Coast IPA's.
Having worked together at Wolf of the Willows several years ago, Andy and Scotty always talked about doing something together, and a collaboration on an amazing West Coast IPA recipe always felt like the right way to do it.
This true intercontinental brew saw Andy travel to Wolf of the Willows in Melbourne to meet Scotty and brew a batch of the beer in Mordialloc, then Scotty flew to San Francisco to brew a batch of the same recipe at Original Pattern in Oakland.
Two Brewers, two continents, and two batches of the one beer.
The result was a true 6.2% ABV West Coast IPA using U.S. and Australian hops, featuring an experimental U.S. hop variety that's still unnamed (currently called HBC 586 US), and one of our favourite Australian hop varieties, Eclipse.
Launch night for the beer was held on Friday Feb 10, 2023, and featured a live international cross to Oakland California with Original Pattern Head Brewer and ex-pat Aussie, Andy Crocker.
Andy spoke with Scotty McKinnon about the brew, how it came about, and covered some insight into the U.S. west coast beer scene as well as his own brewing origin story with Scotty.
Held on a warm summers Friday night with foo matching, beer specials and the usual 16 taps of beer from the bar, the launch night saw a packed house of beer fans enjoying a truly unique event.
